Remediation/Sanitization

Sanitization and Remediation are different processes and either or both will be recommended in your assessment report.  Both of these require certified Mold/IAQ professionals to accomplish correctly.

Note: All Protocols followed by ESG Carolinas qualify for NORMI Certificate of Sanitization
NORMI COS is one way we back up our work with third party verifications.  pre and post accredited lab testing and written guarantee of sanitization for areas treated.

Sanitization involves the cleansing of existing contaminated surfaces and air, rather than removal and replacement.  In many cases building materials and personal items can be salvaged with this process much more affordably than removing and replacing.  Only our assessment specialists will be able to determine what protocols can be used.

Sanitization may include:

  • Ozonation/ionization with professional equipment
  • Fogging with environmentally friendly certified biocides and microbial growth preventors
  • Spraying and scrubbing surfaces with the biocides and growth preventors
  • Reduction of relative humidity
  • HEPA vacuuming contaminated surfaces
  • 5-30 warranties are available when we use Anabec Systems to clean, disinfect and protect finished surfaces, unfinished surfaces, and/or carpeting as Certified Advanced Anabec Applicators (AAA).

We may also use environmentally friendly products from Best Living Systems or from BacShield, depending on job requirements and protocols needed.

Remediation may include the above protocols plus:

  • Removal of sheetrock, insulation and other contaminated building materials
  • HEPA vacuuming contaminated remaining surfaces such as framing studs.
  • Spraying and scrubbing contaminated surfaces that haven't been removed
  • Treating with spray or fogging for microbial kill and prevention.

Containing the contaminated area to protect the rest of the structure and occupants is important.  This has to be done by trained professionals and all protocols set by the mold remediation industry must be followed.  Also, only approved products and technologies are used to ensure decontamination results.

Both sanitization and remediation are followed by post-testing assessments and lab analysis to determine if protocols were effective and clearance of the area can be given.

Some remediation work can include rebuild of new insulation, sheetrock, etc. but is done under a separate agreement. Once the decontamination work is complete and tests show clearance, the rebuild can begin and can be done by any general contractor.
